Installation Overview

We will give you a quick rundown about the easy and straightforward installation of an MPI Exhaust system. Available as an easy at-home install Clamp together system or as a professional weld together system.

Wheelbase -

Look at the illustration below for reference. All kits are designed for maximum wheelbase for that specific make and body style.

Four-door long box trucks have the longest wheelbase. You can see the difference on the right-side example. All kits are shipping with full-length head pipes to be compatible with that maximum length. Long head pipes eliminate extra exhaust joints and extend the life of the system. It also looks a lot nicer.

For all wheelbase trucks, you remove the factory exhaust (cutting locations provided in the instructions) and then install the MPI Pulse Chamber. Install one head pipe. Take a tape measurement from the tube of the rear end and mark the distance on the head pipe per your kit instructions. This sets the length of the head pipes to your truck's wheelbase. Cut both head pipes to this measurement and install them.

Slipping on the muffler pack to the head pipes is next. Now you will get a measurement from the rear end tube to the case of the muffler. When you install the mufflers ensure this measurement is precise so the tailpipes will fit perfectly and the rear muffler hanger kits will also fit as intended. This also makes sure you have proper clearances for rear-end up/down travel. Right and left tailpipes are next and then the tips. Careful previous measurements make this part go much smoother.

Tools needed for our kit installation are shown below. There is a wide range of tools that will result in quality installations but these are the ones we find best and easiest for installations. Basic hand tools will always be needed to install either installation type, Weld-on or bolt-on.
